Looks like The Traitors is making some casting changes. John Ritchie, who plays “Fergus” on the show (aka the castle’s silent and omnipresent groundskeeper) appears to have been cut from the cast, which he reportedly announced on Bluesky.
Per The Sun, which first reported this news, John wrote, “Oh, also, I think yesterday was the last day of filming. I say think, because, well, I wasn’t in it. Production decided to discontinue the character of Fergus. As ever, it was never up to me. I’m not kidding. Sorry everyone but they decided to cut Fergus from the show. And that’s that.”
He went on to add, “Thanks for the support but I’m genuinely fine with not doing the show again. The last season was not much fun to make, won’t go into the whys and so on, but it’s all good and I’m alright with not doing it anymore. I do think the fans won’t like it but, hey, it wasn’t up to me.”
John’s messages had people speculating that host Alan Cumming was involved in the decision, which he immediately cleared up, writing, “Let me absolutely clear that Alan and I have no quarrels. He has been nothing but supportive to me over all the time I worked on #TheTraitorsUS. This has extended to other projects too. He and I get along very well and there is mutual respect for each other as artists.”
John has been on The Traitors since 2023. He/Fergus will definitely be missed!
